ABOUT SUZUN HUGHES Suzun Hughes, moved from San Francisco to Roanoke in April 2007. She and her husband John Wilson renovated the Henri Kessler building at 117 West Campbell Ave as live workspace for themselves. Suzun studied at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2006, and graduated from San Francisco State University's Multimedia Studies Program in 2003, with a certificate in digital design and an emphasis in video.

Suzun captures the organic textures and abstract forms around her and recreates these images into unexpected unions of shape and color. She creates bold, colorful, and expressive images and strives to show something of the unconscious and preverbal mind. Her explorations with light and form aspire to communicate the poetry of basic human emotions, often using repetition and symbols as an inherent part of her work.

Statement
Through my explorations with texture, color, luminosity and surface, I recreate the organic and man -made forms around me into abstracted unions of shape and color. My images aspire to show something of the unconscious and preverbal mind, and to communicate the ideas and emotions that lie beneath the surface of our consciousness.
