Tom
Lawson, a former lawyer, has been painting as a primary
occupation since 1992. Centered on the female nude, Lawson's
oils are representational, but not literal. He begins with
the figure and then strives to work his way out of it, merging
it with the background and letting geometric shapes come
forward. His aim is to relax the conscious hold and have
the picture itself take the lead.
Lawson
is a member of the Market Gallery in downtown Roanoke.
