Roanoke
Valley teacher and artist Diane Patton takes inspiration
from everyday life to create flora and landscape watercolors and
abstract acrylics. Subtle yet dramatic, Patton's work exhibits a
sensitive interplay of shadow and light, as she applies layer upon
layer of glaze, pigment, and pastel to create a distinctive vibrancy
of tone and energy of feeling.
Essentially
self-taught, Patton has studied with many nationally known watercolorists,
including Frank Webb, Jean Dobie, and Al Broillette. She is a signature
member of the Virginia Watercolor Society and an associate member
of the American Watercolor Society.
She
has received many awards for her work, including the Grumbacher
National Medal for outstanding achievement in watercolor (1997)
and Best in Show, Virginia Watercolor Society (Richmond Regional),
1998.
